The purpose of the Rosary in the Roman Catholic Church is to commemorate certain events in the life of Jesus Christ, and to thank and praise God. There are a total of twenty Mysteries reflected upon in the Rosary, and these are divided into four groups of Mysteries: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious.
The Rosary contains five decades, each one a reflection of one of the Mysteries within the Mystery group. Mystery groups are prayed on a certain day of the week or during a particular time of the year.
Following are the Sorrowful Mysteries which are prayed on Tuesday and Friday and during Lent.
